Koodai by Saras was created not only to reimagine a familiar everyday carry, but also to create meaningful work for women who already carry this skill in their hands.

Today, our artisan community includes more than 65 women, many of them homemakers. They weave from their own homes and places, balancing family, household responsibilities, and craft in a way that fits into their lives.

For us, every Koodai is a product of design. For them, it is also a source of income, identity, and daily purpose.

A rhythm that cannot be rushed

A Koodai is not made in a hurry. The wire has to be held with the right pressure, the shape has to be built evenly, and the pattern has to stay neat from start to finish. Every line, knot, and curve needs patience, practice, and attention.

This is where the maker’s skill becomes visible.

At Koodai by Saras, many of our artisans are homemakers who weave from their own homes and places. Their day often begins with family and household responsibilities.

Once the work at home is done, they sit down to weave not as a burden, but as something that has become part of their daily rhythm.

For many of them, weaving brings calm. The repeated movement, the focus, and the slow shaping of each Koodai keep their hands active and their mind meaningfully engaged.

In the middle of a busy day, it becomes a peaceful space - almost like therapy.

It also creates an earning opportunity from a skill they enjoy.

Through Koodai by Saras, homemakers are able to contribute financially while continuing to manage their homes and families. Their work gives them income, confidence, identity, and pride.
